Bisham Abbey Sailing & Navigation School is an award winning quality RYA training within easy reach of London and the Home Counties. Based by the beautiful River Thames at Marlow, we are an independent business established in 1991 within Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre specialising in small group Royal Yachting Association training.
We can offer practical motor, barge and narrowboat handling courses on our 22ft Mitchell, 17m Dutch Barge, 36ft narrow-boat or RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2 on our RIBs. Alternatively our instructors can come to you for own boat tuition at your venue. RYA Inland Waters Helmsman?s Course, International Certificate of Competence and CEVNI Tests for Europe are available as well as the MCA Boatmaster Licence.
Intensive and semi-intensive RYA shore-based navigation courses on offer include: Basic Navigation & Safety, Dayskipper, Yachtmaster and Yachtmaster Ocean. We also run the one day courses for VHF SRC Radio, First Aid, Diesel Engine Maintenance, Radar, Sea Survival /Water Safety, MCA BML Fire Safety. We use Westerly Yachts, not the less sea-kindly modern lightwieghts favoured by many other schools. Both are fully coded to MCA/RYA standards for operation in the Plymouth area and across the Channel. One vessel is a ketch, the other a sloop. Both Gypsy Moth IV & Lively Lady, the first two single-handed round the world yachts of Sir Francis Chichester and Sir Alec Rose are ketches. A ketch can give a flexibility of sail set not found on a sloop.
We offer RYA Training - both Practical and Theory Courses.

British Marine Surveyor Phil Duffy is a member of the International Institute of Marine Surveyors. Interface Marine offers all types of Marine Surveys from small craft, both sail & power to Super Yachts throughout France from Brittany to the French Riviera and throughout Europe. Surveys are carried out for Pre Purchase, Damage Inspections as well as Condition & Valuation Surveys for insurance and finance purposes. New build supervision is a specialty with a critical eye to detail, both cosmetic & engineering from an ex Super Yacht Captain with 30 years marine experience.

Mike Reeder, a Master Mariner and RYA Instructor, has successfully trained more than 400 Owners, Captains, Mates and Crew for their YACHTMASTERS certificates. His dedicated team of instructors arranges courses for the complete beginner through to YACHTMASTER (OCEAN) and the commercial endorsements. This is the most popular, and most sensible. If not possible, the school has MCA - coded motor cruisers available.
INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE (ICC)
This is a very popular course. We train for the Craft up to 24 meters in length. the certificate is required when visiting the coastal waterways of Europe. For the inland waters, the Code European des Voies de la Navigation Interieure (CEVNI) is also needed.

For the level 1, level 2, Intermediate, and advanced certificates.

Shorebased theory in central Sussex, sailing on the Solent.
Mustang Sailing offer the full range of RYA navigation theory and one-day specialist courses at Ringmer nr Lewes in central Sussex, and all the RYA practical sail courses in the Solent, sailing from Universal Marina on the Hamble.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY
New technology masks the importance of personal skills in prediction. Forecasts sometimes differ, predicted progress of weather systems vary and selecting from the wealth of information is difficult. Technology can go wrong (usually at crucial times!) and no public forecasts predict all events at the mesoscale - the area in which most of us do our sailing.
LEARNING MATERIAL
The course includes: a fully illustrated learning pack with note-taking boxes adjacent to each subject laminated identification cards of weather features for on deck predictions a pre-course pack covering fundamental principles, illustrations and recommended reading.

Who we are
We are a professional sailing school committed to providing the best Sail Training
available. We focus primarily on RYA (Royal Yachting Association) training but also
offer SAS (South African Sailing) qualifications.
Our Cruising Instructors, Yachtmaster Instructors and Yachtmaster Examiners are all
fully RYA and SAS qualified. They will ensure that you have a safe, exciting,
interesting, enjoyable and successful learning experience, whether you are learning to
sail for personal pleasure or to work in the industry.
Courses offered
Courses offered include all the RYA Practical and Theory Courses.
All courses can be done as single stand alone courses, but should preferably be done
as part of structured courses resulting in RYA Day Skipper, RYA Coastal Skipper or
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates of Competence. For those with more
experience we can offer the Yachtmaster Ocean Course.
Theory classes take place in our classroom at the Royal Cape Yacht Club in Cape
Town and all necessary books and course materials are provided for you.
Our Practical courses are conducted mainly in Saldanha Bay with its tidal streams, and
offshore for the Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore Cruising Courses.
The Practical courses are live aboard and all your books, course materials, food, equipment required and use of foul weather gear is included.
The environment varies from a busy port to desolate beaches. The weather varies
from changeable in winter to hot and windy in summer, making for some of the most
varied and interesting sailing you can find anywhere. It is normal to see lots of
dolphins, seals, sea birds and whales during the practical courses.
Our vessels
We operate two excellent sail training vessels; a Farr 38, named 34?South and an
Oyster Lightwave 39.5, named Donna Mia. Each boat is equipped with a full set of
sails from storm jib to spinnaker and a full suit of electronics from chart plotter to radar
and AIS. They both comply with RYA, SAS and SAMSA standards for sail training
vessels and are the best equipped sail training vessels in South Africa.
